Anime 0325
Anime watching update. Just putting my random thoughts down as I watch. It's been going slower than I wanted but I'm trying not to just burn through a single long show at a time and burnout.
Tenchi Universe (The tv show): Holy shit I waited too long to rewatch this. It's filling in a ton of gaps in my memory. Washu's mad scientist shit was influential(?) to kid me back then. I'm taking more notes on the side for something else, so many characters to like.
Creamy Mami: This show will stretch believable just to get going. Yuu is much more of a gremlin than expected. A lot of tension so far has been OH NO WILL YUU TRANSFORM IN TIME? and then she does. Sometimes with weird compromises. Maybe it helps that these shows are going âHey, kid. She got out of this with MAGIC.â Very much has her SING THE ONE SONG WHICH IS ALSO THE OP every ep. Watching alongside Momo and Emi, I think Momoâs silliness lands weird eps better, Emi is about the same âok but mehâ but the âweird mysteryâ types in Mami are a little flat sometimes.. Sometimes eps so far have had a âYuu is a kidâ ep and not fully delivering. It seems to be getting more drama as I watch. Iâm trying my best to not treat it as self-assigned homework before I watch other magical girl/kids anime and Kimagure Orange Road which shares some staff.
Magical Emi: Dream Hunter Rem cameo jumpscare early in (lots of shared staff, this first cameo looks like it wouldâve happened after they finished the R18 version). Show is old enough where the kids serve beer to their parents. Show seems a little more serious than expected. If Mami is more a sitcom that would sit next to maybe a Rumio Takahashi comedy, Emi will be that show where it explores issues kids face more directly? I like green hair characters, I like lady magicians so I always wanted to check this out. Where Iâm at, it REALLY needs more songs. Emi and Mami both have the âAND SHE SINGS THE SONGâ and for so many episodes it has been THE opening. Mami got a 2nd song that theyâre using close to ep20. I think this mightâve been okay as a weekly airing show but Iâm sure people wouldâve gotten tired of it. Maybe kids did too?
Minky Momo: is just wild all the time. Momo is written very alien like. She drops down on the earth, summons some talking animals from her magical kingdom, hypnotizes a childless couple too busy to have one that sheâs their daughter and moves in. She has a car. With a trailer. The car can fly, also with the trailer. Says some english phrases. âThanks, friends.â I think itâs kinda set all over the world? Maybe itâs in japan? Much more cartoony than expected. The 82â show is so much more scrunkly than the later shows. Heck, if it werent for some context clues itâd fit in with some 70âs shows. Quality slowly improves and by ep9 they remove the weird faces from the ED. Minky Momo disappointed that San Francisco isnât a wild west town anymore, IMMEDIATELY AFTER GOING WOW GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE. BANG BANG CITY TEXAS? Adult Momo has some really good outfits. Future Programmer Momo is great. Iâve gotten the Cutie Honey SDBD in, so I might watch that too. If toonami became its own cable channel, Momo would've been a great throwback rerun. However, dub rights and maybe even the JP rights back then would've been harmony gold hell back then IIRC.
Chacha:I watched the first ep ages ago and it didnât click. Returned to it now and gave it the three episode run. Very fun to watch, lots of fun comedic timing and little animation things. Like NG Knight Ramune, might want to have some nihongo on your belt. Japanese word play every episode and subs will try their best. These are kid shows so hopefully not too difficult to catch. Going to be watching slowly.
Futari wa Precure: Honestly I do remember starting this before it landed on crunchy, trying again on crunchy when it landed and now trying to watch now. These girls are good. However, going from the 80âs and early 90âs shows to the first precure is weird. I fully expected the first few eps to be very PRODUCT, but last few I watched have had some weird slow spots that feels like it might lose some kids if they arenât already bought in.
NG Knight: I got through the big twist part where the OP and ED change after. Put on hold because the bluray player is not hooked up.
Pocket Monsters: Of course, watching in japanese makes some things make more sense. Iâm watching with those subs that use japanese pokemon names. going to be watching slow for now but might be on rotation.
