I can't explain things.

(short) media update 11-2-25 (and OBS notes)

lots of chores and some medical stuff last week

Video:

Minky Momo 2 Ep8 - Golfing episode. More of the silliness I like from the series. Very cute Moles in this episode. Going to it after seeing golf through the lens of 90's games and media is funny. (well, mainly Neo Turf Masters, T&E Soft's Saturn output, and multi-media era stuff.) The ED theme is getting stuck in my head. Last year I had put on later episodes without subtitles because YT will see you watching a japanese video with subtitles and that you like anime and go "here, watch minky momo, magical angel sweet mint, ramune 40. without subtitles. good luck." I had somehow dodged all the interesting spoilers for these earlier parts.

Game:

Since I was doing a lot of resting I finally tried Balatro. I think I like it slightly more than dicey dungeons but I am falling off it quicker than expected. I am just playing it when I can't do much, so maybe I'd like it more or less when I have more energy.

Wasn't able to record a full deathless run of rondo, but I got close. I think I should play that one more through the year, CV1 I remembered stuff quicker and executed well. I had too much life shit and not enough sleep this oct. I am still designing a Real Hardware capture for GBC and GBA. PCB design? DSPs? FPGA? what's that. I only know camera, lens, lights, wood, aluminum pieces, and cutting materials.

Computer:

OBS notes for this year's classicvania: First time using linux obs, wanted to do simultaneous recording and streaming but didn't get around to it. it worked better than expected and running from terminal outputs useful info! This time I could set the internal render of OBS to 444 color. This caused some issues because some things were not handled automatically for recording. (I'm assuming the streaming output automatically converts color.) If I went to nvenc and tried to do HEVC, it would assume 444 HEVC. IIRC NVENC of this era (20 series gpu, but i'm using a quadro) can only do 420 or 444. I wanted to do 1080p canvas upscaled to 420 UHD HEVC. I didn't learn how to put the right commands in the right places so it converts to 420. I think this is why some ppl do UHD 420 OBS canvas and downscale to twitch. So the first GOOD recording I had was NVENC HEVC lossless intra frame. spun up the GPU fan all the way, made a big file. Actually looked good. Thought a little more and switched to using the CPU to encode ffmpeg prores 4444. This only used ~25% cpu and produced a great 1080p file. Looked absolutely perfect. Youtube upload takes a long time but it works. I think with a few more tweaks i can get files for editing video, but that's another day. (some of my recordings had a 2 frame drop at start and I need to find out how to stop that. This desync'd the audio sometimes when I tried to re-encode before yt upload)

Later edit: My capture box does 422, the idea would be to render internally and record 422/444 to preserve more color information for the awkward scaling that goes on for the NES, SNES, pce, etc. that don't output square pixels. This is why ppl want a 4k scaler. This is why ppl want a UHD of Wachowskis Speed Racer even though it's only a digital 2k. Preserve color information by upscaling to UHD. (cinema 2048 pixel wide, not 1440p. Always annoyed at "2k" as 1440p in gaming spaces)
